Seniors (Fellmen)

The Senior Men’s section of Keswick Golf Club is known as ‘The Fellmen’. It consists of playing members over 55 years of age, some retired, some still working, from widely different backgrounds, who, by paying a supplementary fee of £5, join the Fellmen and qualify to take part in all their activities.

The main meeting of the Fellmen takes place every Tuesday morning. Throughout the year Tuesday competitions are held, with tee-times from 8.16 to 9.15, Fellmen competing in good-natured golf followed by an informal gathering for a snack lunch in the Clubhouse. The Winter season has an exciting variety of individual and team formats and in the Summer some Tuesday competitions carry trophies, and all, along with individual performances in the eighteen matches played against other local clubs, contribute towards the Fellmen’s chief honour, of Fellman Of The Year.  Individual Fellmen organise their own games at other times of the week, particularly first thing on Fridays.

The Fellmen activities are run by the elected Fellmen Committee, consisting of Fellman Captain, Vice-Captain, Immediate past Captain, Match Secretary and Secretary.  Apart from the Tuesday Competitions and the Inter-Club matches, a Summer Away Day is organised, and three Dinners, one including wives or partners, are held each year.  The Fellmen also play a major role in the running of the Keswick Seniors Open Competition, an event of increasing standing in the County, with a full entry from a wide area.

The Fellmen are a sociable lot. If you join them you will enjoy some regular exercise in good company, play well or badly without criticism, mix with handicaps from 10 to 28 in competitions without edge, and if ‘form’ deserts you entirely, the unmatched beauty of the mountain views from the course will put everything into perspective. For further information about joining the Fellmen please contact the Club Secretary.
